HCI Systems, a family owned company established in 2012, is one of the leading providers of high-quality electrical wiring solutions to the motorsport, including Formula One, and automotive arenas.

Based in Newport, Shropshire, the company has an enviable reputation based on high quality wiring harness design and manufacture for low voltage and electric vehicles as well as providing complimentary technologies such as power management systems, switch panels and bespoke electronics systems working to customer specifications.

Due to the continued success of the business both in established and new market places, HCI Systems are looking to recruit a Quality Inspection Technician to join the team and further assist the company in its growth plans.

The key functions of the role:

  • Inspect 100% of items as presented by Manufacturing team in First and Final arenas, recording inspection details as per customer / HCI  requirements
  • Inspect finished products to test wiring harness continuity using Cirris Automated test equipment or other Electrical test equipment as required.
  • Interact with Management and all other departments attending weekly production meeting to ensure Inspection area is able to test and inspect product to meet the requirements of the Production Schedule and advise if any issues occur well in advance to ensure solutions can be found
  • Oversee day-to-day operation of the Inspection Area. Use Manufacturing software to log progress reporting back to management where any bottlenecks and concerns appear.
  • Use Manufacturing Software to create a stock location and inventory for Test Leads
  • Own the tooling calibration library to ensure all tools are within calibration at all times
  • Ensure all build paperwork (Work orders and In-process Inspection sheets) for each harness are correctly recorded
  • Ensure Inspection area work to processes set within HCI Quality Manual
  • Work to the Quality Management System (QMS) and update it as and when required
  • Manage all quality related interfacing with internal and external customers in a professional and accepted manner putting in containment actions, full analysis, poka-yokes (error proofing), and implementing short-term and long-term countermeasures
  • Act as a point of contact for any warranty issues
  • Program and use Cirris Test equipment and other HV test equipment as required
  • Calibrate tooling using Crimp Pull Tester to recognised standards
  • Clear verbal and written communication
  • Report against agreed quality metrics on a weekly basis
  • In conjunction with the Purchasing team, reduce the effect of non-conforming supplier materials on the production area quality to an acceptable level for HCI
  • Produce written reports and have the character to present findings in a confident way to empower the team
  • Undertake continuous training and development
  • Perform root cause analysis and resolve problems
  • Ensure that the function operates in accordance with any health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of staff and visitors
  • Conduct risk assessments of processes and tasks
  • Consistently promote high standards through personal example
  • Liaise with suppliers to resolve quality issues
  • Liaise and communicate with other departments, customers, suppliers and other service providers
  • Communicate with personnel at all levels, internally and externally to the Company, in relation to Quality matters

Education / Experience / Attributes required:

  • A minimum of 3 years in a similar quality environment, ideally motorsport / automotive / defence
  • Use of Cirris Test Equipment
